Mobile phones are now part of our daily life. It is more over a necessity now. This is known to the service providers also that’s why they bring new features in their services to hold the customer and retain them for a long time.
But as a customer we always want best in a good package. Mobile Number Portability across India was launched by government of India, this was done after a long wait and numerous missed deadlines.. this will lead in an era of freedom for mobile subscribers. This will allow subscribers to change their mobile service provider without losing their old mobile number.
This means users will be able to retain their old mobile number even after they decide to change their service provider. The service is available for both postpaid and prepaid customers.
User need to send an SMS to 1900 in following format: PORT - eg. PORT 9999999999. User will get an SMS reply that contains a unique porting code. SMS to the preferred operator quoting the unique code. This code is valid only for a few days, and one must apply again if it expires. The existing operator will check with new operator & if there are no dues then approval will be given for porting. You will get an SMS on the time and date when porting will take place. It'll cost you Rs. 19 and the change is done in less than a week.
After porting is complete, SMS from new operator confirming the switch. Mobile phone may be dead for about 2 hours when the porting takes place.
The only restriction is that we can change operator only within current service area or current city.
Several subscribers, who feel disappointed with billing, customer care and overall service delivery,have been waiting for this moment. Some consumers who are frequent callers, subscribed to a user group and are on different networks could now move to single network to take advantage of attractive tariff packages, including free calls within the same network,etc.
