The initial step in the software selection process is internal planning and budgeting. Set up project team, get buy-in for the project and put together a high-level budget.
Software Requirements Analysis
Documents and analyze the requirements. Focusing on key differentiating criteria so that concentration will be on most important requirements and quickly, yet thoroughly evaluate vendors.
Software Vendor Research
Evaluate vendor options.
Software Demos
After Short List, invite the vendors for demos. Ask to follow a structured Demo Script to show how they will handle key requirements and comparison to be made.
Software Decision
After narrow the list to few vendors it's time to do due diligence and confirm final decision.
Software Contract Negotiation
Most software contracts are written by the software vendor. Make sure to negotiate the contract to protect interests and save you money.
Implementation Vendor Selection
A critical part of the selection process that most companies overlook is the selection of a qualified implementation partner. In certain cases there is need to do the evaluation during the vendor research, or will select the implementation partner after selection of software product. The selection of the implementation partner can make or break the success of implementation.
